First test firing of the Ares I first stage solid rocket booster. DM-1 (Demonstration Motor) is the first of the new five segment solid rocket boosters to be used as the first stage for the Ares vehicle intended to replace the space shuttle. This video was taken at approximately 1 pm MDT on September 10th 2009 at ATK Launch Systems' T-97 test stand in Promontory, Utah. The cheering you hear at T-20 seconds is in response to the aborted attempt to fire the motor 2 weeks prior.
