Atheist Atom

static

In an alternative earth universe this is a 50's/60's unmanned x-rocket plane that did what the X-1 did for us.

The Atheist Atom:BT55/56 balsa nose cone, a plastic tube adapter from a Estes Guardian; 35 cm 10 shroud parachutes all weighing in at 70g empty (no engine) (I still need to scratch decals.) In this design the tubes with the fins are far back behind the engine which makes this rocket stable  (look at Space Ship One) The wings are made of bass wood 3/32 sanded to shape with 3/32 balsa laminations on each side of the root and tip making a wide root and keeping everything together. The engine hook is out side of the 24mm body tube wrapped with 24mm tube that was cut length wise to expanded around the body and a 18mm tube inside going all the way up through the transition into the BT55 tube. I finished it in pumpkin orange with a gloss black nose cone. This was not a fast scratch build (22 hours) haveing to think my way through the build process. B6-4 270ft C6-5 500ft Nice park flyer. NO! A'S
