Saturn V Launched in Houston Astrodome

This is the photo from the cover of the March 1970 (Volume II, Number 6) issue of Model Rocketry Magazine. It shows the liftoff of the Saturn V launched inside the Houston Astrodome during the halftime show of the 1969 Bluebonnet bowl. The rocket used a special D motor produced by Estes to ensure that the rocket's maximum altitude would remain below the 194-foot ceiling height.

Young Rick Piester presses the button as Bill Simon (behind Rick) films the launch.
