The Epcot Explorer is a 14-foot tall rocket designed and built by a team of students from University High School (UHS) in Orlando, Florida, with the support of a team of engineers from Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Air Station, and Patrick Air Force Base.
Ninety-two people, including 59 UHS students, spent more than 2500 hours designing, prototyping, building, and testing the Epcot Explorer. The students launched the rocket twice each day at Epcot during the theme park's celebration of Space Week in July of 1996. The rocket lifted off from an area near Epcot’s Spaceship Earth and was recovered in the World Showcase Lagoon by students and engineers in a pontoon boat.
