I got a chance to watch Ky Michelson's video of LDRS 18 that took place August 2-5, 1999 in Argonia, Kansas. The video itself is plenty long and has a ton of fantastic flights on it. I really enjoyed a lot of the interviews with some of the flyers to find out the background story of their projects. The videography is very nice, I wish my videos turned out that good.
Ky tells me that during the entire event, the wind was whipping around at a constant 15-20 mph. This made for a lot of background noise on some of the tape. Although the noise picks up a few times on the tape the content more than makes up for it. I know I wouldn't have braved the wind that all those flyers did. From what Ky tells me, the wind wasn't as bad as the 100 degree heat all those flyers were dealing with. What a rough flight, the evil "W" on top of high heat. Ouch.
The second half of the video was obviously shot on a different day as the first half as the wind seemed calmer and therefore the sound quality was much better.
The final section of the video covers the construction and launch of a 30' Mercury Redstone project. The coverage is very nice and goes into some good detail of the project. This alone would make the video worth having. I wish there would have been more construction details, but that would make a complete tape all by itself.
The video is good watching. The editing is very clean, which makes it easy to watch. If you like watching rocket videos, this is a good one to have.
