Brief: Construction: As suggested in the included instructions, I measured the resistance of the ematches. This is always a good idea, as 3 of the 8 ematches came in at over 3 ohms resistance. In a vacuum bottle test these were ignited easily with my Perfectflite MAWD, but on a lower current altimeter, this might prove to be a problem. PROS: CONS: Use: Summary: Overall Rating: 4 out of 5
Product arrived well packaged with all of the appropriate warning labels attached via US Mail. They are packed 4 to a package. I received 2 packages which turned out to be a good thing as detailed later.
Each EZ ejection canister is basically an ematch cemented into a thick, sturdy cardboard tube. I went with the large even though I was only using 1.5-2oz of propellant as I had gotten some 1" copper tube caps to insert them into and it only took a couple of layers of masking tape to friction fit the canisters into the caps.
For flight, the BP was poured in and the balance of the space was wedged with recovery wadding. Tape is used to seal the wadding and powder in and you're all set. During the flight, all 3 of my main fins shredded due to the design I had chosen to go with, causing the rocket to go into a violent skywriting mode. Despite this, the recovery system held up beautifully and functioned without incident.
Overall, this is a nice product that appears to be competitively priced. It is very easy to use. Not knowing what the matches are made with, I must go with the manufacturer's statement that these will continue to be able to be shipped and used under new regulations, and if he's correct in this, it makes the product even more attractive since shipping should be considerably cheaper than the competitors.
