AN EASY MADE, SEMI SCALE, TINTIN ROCKET

the rocket on the pad

The base of this little rocket is a V2 rocket kit from ASP.

I chose the 24mm version, because it seemed to me that the body shape was close to the Tintin rocket. After checking with the book (there is a blue print of the rocket in the book), I was very pleased to see that the tailcone was very very close from the drawing.

To make the fuel pods of the Tintin rocket, I searched for a while until I saw that a ping pong ball was a cheap and easy approximation. In fact, when the rocket was finished, the peoples that saw it didn't even noticed the mistake! The most important fact is the painting. That's what the spectators see.

How to build the rocket?

You need :
  • One V2 rocket kit, 24mm from ASP.
  • Three ping pong balls.
  • A sheet of 3 mm balsa for the fins.

Use the fin template at the end of the page. Print it to the correct size using the size of the ping pong ball as a guide. Use the template of the root edge of the V2 fins to draw precisely the root edges of the Tintin rocket fins. The weight in the nose cone assure that the cp/cg is ok (the Tintin fins are larger than the v2-fins).The rest is only finishing...
