Brief:

This is a brief review of QuickBurst's 18" rocket rack.

Construction:

This is a simple product and there isn't much to add to QuickBurst's own description: "The 18-inch Rocket Rack is made of lightweight, strong, durable 1/2 inch Sch 40 PVC pipe with 3/8-inch thick foam insulation at key areas for padded protection. It measures approximately 12 inches tall and deep by 18 inches long. The joints are pressure-fit, not glued. Shipped partially disassembled, it comes with complete, easy assembly instructions.

"The 18-inch rack is stable. By simply placing your project on the rack (and using the attached securing device) the rack becomes a strong, lightweight and secure means of working on, transporting and storing your project. Mount the rack on the wall with your project attached and you've got instant display and storage."

As delivered, my rack consisted of the parts shown to the right. The following photos show it partially assembled and completed. The instructions say to glue it together using PVC glue if you are going to transport it much. It seems to hold together fine and I want to disassemble it for transport, so I did not do so. If it gets too loose I may glue some of the connections.

The final two photos show a reasonably large rocket on the stand. I have no idea how much weight it will hold, but I suspect that it will hold almost any rocket in my fleet that is over 18" long and whose fins have a span less than in 12" (more if it is a three fin rockets).

Summary:

This is a great product and I will make good use of it in the Rocket Dungeon and on-site. 'Nuff said!'

This rack was given to me by QuickBurst for placing 9th in Descon-13. Thanks for supporting the contest, David!

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5

Dick Stafford has already done an excellent detailed review of the QuickBurst Rocket Rack 18". I just wanted to add my experience in ordering and another use I found. I placed my order online late one night when surfing some model rocketry sites. I had seen other people use these before. The $20 price seemed real reasonable and wham about two days later here it was by UPS! It got here so fast I wasn't even expecting it yet. Construction was very simple and took less than 1 minute. It looks nice, is sturdy, fairly priced, shipped blistering fast, and it works great as a paint stand also. I removed all the foam padding pieces and just painted a model on it. Just paint one side of the model and let it dry to touch, then place the model in reverse horizontal order and there ya go. Yes you will get paint on it from every model you spray while using it, but that will give your rack more character. You can easily put the foam pads back on and still use it to hold models at your next launch. I am pleased with my purchase, it's brilliant in simplicity and quite useful.

The previous comment made me think, and I just used the rack to hold a rocket while I fiberglassed its fins. It worked great and made the job easier.
