Modification Big Dawg Modification

Modification - Big Dawg

Contributed by Orion Samoiloff

Manufacturer: Modification

[Rocket Pic]Brief: Upgraded 18mm motor mount to 24mm motor mount. Changed parachute to 7-foot streamer.

Construction: The Big Dawg is a fun kit to build and fly as a stock kit. With theses few modifications, the rocket is incredible. It's a very simple conversion.

Added 24mm motor mount tube using 2 BT55 - BT50 centering rings. I had to modify where the fins attached to the motor mount (shortened tabs). Replaced the standard thin shock cord with 1/2in cord. Replaced 18" parachute with 7' of streamer. Painted the rocket purple and black. I used Weldbond for the fins. The rest of the kit remained stock.

[Rocket Pic]Flight: I decided to fly this kit on an Estes D12-7 first, then 2 flights on Aerotech E30-7T's. The flights were lightning fast, with incredible altitudes, possibly over 2000'. The only problem with the flights were the landings, a fin broke each time. Not too hard to fix though. There were no flight flaws, and the rocket was not 'shredded' by the speeds in achieved.

Summary:This is a great conversion. I will try to build this same kit using stronger materials, to prolong it's like. My kit only has a few flights left in it, but I am looking forward to each one!
