Manufacturer: | Art Applewhite Rockets |
Brief:
A three sided pointy shape with jagged edges like the B2 Stealth Bomber. See the pictures. This rocket has nothing in
common with a three fins and a nosecone rocket except a motor tube which is 54mm.
Construction:
The Stealth 54 is constructed from foamboard. It uses quarter round molding to join the three sides. Fiberglass cloth
is supplied to reinforce the rocket.
Construction is straightforward with the instructions supplied.
Finishing:
A coat of black is all that is necessary. I used Krylon H2O paint.
Construction Rating: 5 out of 5
Flight:
The Stealth 54 will give you the lowest altitude for a given motor. That is okay because you will see the entire
flight up close and personal. The Aerotech K550 in particular gives you the flame, smoke, and noise that you want. Note
that the plume lights up the smoke that is pulled into the vacuum behind the stealth for a nice effect. I also like the
spin during the boost. I have flown the Stealth three times on the Aerotech K550 motor and will likely stick with it.
Recovery:
The Stealth tumbles to the ground always close to the pad. The high drag and light weight make this possible.
Flight Rating: 5 out of 5
Summary:
This is the rocket if you want something different, easy, and attention getting.
Thanks to Art Applewhite for letting me build the beta version. This is truely the simplest and most foolproof 54mm rocket you will find. Just stick to the recommended motors.
