Summary:
Once again Chuck Rudy and VooDoo Digital score big with a launch video. This
disk covers the June 16-18 2005 NERRF launch. As usual the video is first rate
and cinematography is about as good as it is going to get without a Congreaves
Cinetheodolite. The disk flows from day to day covering the sport launches in a
good fashion, paying closer attention to the big rockets on the away cell. I
personally managed to squeeze in there twice. Once when my Sudden Rush / J528
combo immolated itself. It seems that you really should use all the O-rings in
a reload kit. My Mini-BBX on a H165 also made it in. There is fantastic
coverage of Ed Miller's monster monocopter and his Flying Hershey's Hug.
The L3 coverage is extraordinary. I really like the slow motion takeoffs of the BFRs. I would have killed the sound and used music during these moments.
Chuck does some great narrative and I would have liked to hear more. Rockets were identified wherever possible and Chuck also did a very good job of sprinkling in a bit of humor here and there. The AMW sledgehammer motor removal team was entertaining.
Of course any time when you get to hear the rapier like wit and old world charm of Gene (The Mighty D!) Costanza as LCO you should consider yourself lucky.
If I had to pick a nit, I would have liked to see a bit more coverage of the model rocketry pads.
This DVD would be perfect for those days when a launch gets canceled. Just pop it in, crank up the home theater and have an indoor launch! Now if they just had incense that smells like burnt AP, we would be all set.
